Television
5th February 2009: I gave interviews to Channel 9 and 10 ten news (Australia) on the topic of salt after some research conducted by my dietitian colleague Caitlin Reid found many burgers and sandwiches contain up to 150% of the recommended daily amount of sodium in a single serve! Too much salt is harmful and we all need to ask for lower salt options when we eat out.
Magazines
I’ve had lots of fun in my role as Nutrition Editor for Super Food Ideas Magazine, and continue to do so. I love making sense of nutrition and making it practical for my 300,000+ predominantly female readers aged over 25 (just like me!).

Healthy Food Guide is a great magazine in Australia & New Zealand that I have also written articles for. This magazine is good because it uses real expert dietitians and nutritionists to write articles, has an Accredited Practising Dietitian on staff checking all the articles, plus an Editorial Advisory Board of well known nutrition experts. Here are the articles I wrote for them in 2008:
Cholesterol (April 08)
Foods for the over 50s (Oct 08)
Depression (Nov 08)
Alcohol (Dec 08)
RADIO
In 2008, I had a frequent spot on ABC NSW Mid-North Coast morning radio program in which I discussed food myths. I love the immediacy and intimacy of radio and I listen to a lot of it myself as I work in my office Here’s what myths we talked about:
Dairy causes mucous
Eggs are bad for the heart
Detoxing is good for you
Kids don’t get high cholesterol
Worry makes you thin
We get enough vitamin D from the sun
Eating late makes you fat
You can’t die of a broken heart
A low fat diet is the best
I’m fat because I have a slow metabolism
Sea salt is healthier than regular salt
Low-carb beer is healthier
I’ve also been asked for my expert comments by journalists writing for newspapers and magazines. I’ve also appeared on numerous news and current affairs television programs.
ONLINE
I write a monthly Food myths column for GI News, an online newsletter for Australasian and 60,000+ International subscribers interested in the glycemic index and associated health topics such as diabetes, weight loss and a healthy heart. I love myth-busting!
